Planning a Retro-Theme Party, 1920s - 1940s
If you think to throw a party with a "retro" theme (before 1950), then you are probably looking for ideas to get you to a good start! Each decade is so distinct that it be difficult to know where can one start, so here are a few ways to get started:
1. Choose your topic for the Decade
1920 - Think flaps, chin-length bob hairstyles, headbands with feathers, cigarette holders, and low waisted, knee-length dresses for women, flannel trousers, tweedJackets, baggy knickers, and pipes for men. Your room theme could be a good ol 'Prohibition speakeasy style. Jazz and ragtime music will complete the theme.
1930 - Think close-fitting, below the knee dresses, tweed jackets and matching skirts, T-shirt-waist style dresses in florals and linens and hats and gloves for the day, long dresses in silk crepe, chiffon, taffeta or velvet, with a hat and gloves for the evening. Short, finger-waved hair. For men: suits, ties, and hats for the day, evening dress with a coat or jacket and hat for the evening. For music, from jazz-age dance bands until the early sound of swing.
1940 - During the War: suits, consisting of a jacket, blouse and below-the-knee skirt, wide legged pants (think Katharine Hepburn and Rosie the Riveter) and lower heels, comfortable shoes. Wavy hair worn up front on his head and taken to the shoulders in the back. After the war: Feminine dresses with long, full skirts, tight waists and high heels. Zoot suits were all the rage among the men. Big band swing music of names such as Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, and Arte Shaw, to name but a few, was the popular music of the day.
2. Create a guest list, and then select a location on the number of guests
If you are on a small budget, consider inviting fewer people and hosting (it at your home if it is installed). You can create a great 'retro' atmosphere at home, just by playing the musicof the decade and with every bear the fashion of the day.
If you have a larger budget should spots such as hotels, museums, historic sites, restaurants, or to adapt your chosen time. You can rent most often a band or DJ, to the music of the time, and in many places dancefloors playing to enhance the fun.
3. Choose the perfect invitation
The invitation that you are to your guests the first impression they will have of your party. Make it a great one!
Make surethat the style and quality of the invitation is appropriate for your event - "flyer-type" paper invitations can be fine for a very informal meeting, but the classier your party, your invitation should be classier. Keep into account the degree of formality in the decision paper, fonts and embellishments. All these elements are important factors in the party-planning, the invitation sets the stage for the entire party.
Visit your local card and / or stationery stores.Depending on the store they are packaged invitations to choose from, books, and must, by order (usually for quantities of 25-50 and more) to look for, and / or look on laser paper (for a more informal). You can format and print the most purchased invitations to your home computer into a word processing program, but many stores also offer in-store printing services for a reasonable price. If you are not so computer savvy, this service will save you time and frustration in the formatting of potentialand pressure.
If you have not found the perfect invitation for your chosen theme (this can be difficult) depending on the decade of the election, then expect to go online for a number of excellent choice. There are many websites that offer custom printing, and you're sure to find an invitation to wow your party-goers. If you do not see what you want from a Web site that you want the company via e-mail and ask if they will create something custom for your event - it could only beready to create the perfect invitation for you (for a fee, of course). It never hurts to ask …
